CHAPTER NINE: The Inner Sacred Marriage Process

Before taking a detailed look at the full spectrum of the masculine and the feminine by way of the Shamanic Astrology Divination Card Deck (Chapter Ten), one more topic needs to be developed. This is called the inner sacred marriage process . This is a further development of what was touched on in Chapter Five with regards to a man’s Venus and a woman’s Mars placements, which have been termed the Opposite Gender Planet (OGP). Some topics introduced there will be expanded on in this chapter.

To reiterate, a central theme of the Shamanic Astrology Paradigm is in de-emphasizing the Sun sign. Rather, the use of Venus and Mars are found to be more valuable and revealing. This is particularly true when the emphasis is on intent , or when seen as a set of instructions.

When using the 24 cards, 12 for Venus and 12 for Mars, this chapter will explain how to use all 24 whether you are male or female. This approach offers remarkable clues about how to work on, and then eventually accomplish the goal of developing wholeness, the aim of the inner sacred marriage process.

These 24 images and descriptions can be used in two ways:

Mars for men, Venus for women (the SPG: same gender planet)

In this case, which is the obvious and straightforward one, these symbols and images represent the intended version of the masculine for men and the feminine for women. In other words, these images may not be how you actually are initially, but what you are intending to develop throughout your life. For many, it’s not the path of least resistance. That, often, is the masculine or feminine image that would be associated with your Moon sign.

These positions, for you, are your set of instructions. Eventually, you can learn to master, or at least be comfortable in being your SGP. This approach values a full spectrum of possibilities for the masculine and feminine, and provides the tools for avoiding and transcending the chains of limitations stemming from historical and cultural consensus reality.

The attempt has been made here to integrate and synthesize many images from around the world, as well as taking into account the value that comes from images and stories of the past. Much of this has come through the artwork of Roy Purcell, who designed the cards. This hopefully inspires an approach that recognizes how these images change throughout history, and that new sets of possibilities are arising today. We are establishing a template that recognizes how the gods and goddesses, called in modern terms the astrological archetypes of Venus and Mars, are changing and evolving now.

Once again, with strong emphasis, these Venus and Mars archetypal images and descriptions are NOT to be applied to your Sun sign.
